The control of leakage loss across die blades in a reaction expander is extremely important. Maintaining adequate clearance implies preventing mechanical rubs while at die same time minimizing die loss effect on expander efficiency. [Pg.227]

Niobium carbide is used as a component of hard metals, eg, mixtures of metal carbides that are cemented with cobalt, iron, and nickel. The spiraling rise in the price of tantalum has spurred the development of a hafnium carbide—niobium carbide substitute for tantalum carbide (68). Granules can be precipitated and formed by extmding the viscous reaction mixture through a circular die containing several holes over which a knife blade rotates to cut the strands into granules (91). Some manufacturers have experienced die above mentioned Ni3S2 scale formation phenomenon under certain gas conditions, which led to die failure of a rotating blade. We use profile extrusion to make continuous products that have fixed cross-sectional dimensions, such as pipes, house siding, refrigerator door gaskets, and vindshield wiper blades. During profile extrusion the molten output from an extruder is pumped to a die where it is formed to approximately the desired cross-sectional profile. To achieve a compound that meets these feeding requirements, compounders form their product into small pellets. To obtain these small pellets, they use specialized dies consisting of a metal plate with many small holes through which the molten compound is forced. The first leaf symptom of copper toxicity is small yellowish spots that later turn tawny and brownish in color. They are rounded and scattered over the leaf blade without any special pattern, although in some cases spots seem to congregate around the edges and toward the tips of the leaves. Under excessive spraying, leaf tissues show evidence of abnormal hardening, and a crinkle and malformation of the leaf. If the spray is continued, and put on at rather short intervals, a whitish chlorosis exists. In extreme cases defoliation sets in and branches may die. Lowered production would be hardly unexpected.
