Chemical/Physical. Zhang and Rusling (1993) evaluated the bicontinuous microemulsion of surfactant/oiPwater as a medium for the dechlorination of polychlorinated biphenyls by electrochemical catalytic reduction. The microemulsion (20 mL) contained didodecyldimethyl-ammonium bromide, dodecane, and water at concentrations of 21, 57, and 22 wt %, respectively. The catalyst used was zinc phthalocyanine (3.5 nM). When PCB-1232 (69 mg), the microemulsion and catalyst were subjected to an electrical current of mA/cm on 11.2 cm lead electrode for 12 h, a dechlorination yield of >99.8% was achieved. Reaction products included minor amounts of mono- and dichlorobiphenyls (0.01 mg), biphenyl, and reduced alkylbenzene derivatives. [Pg.899]

The rate at which the microemulsion droplets exchange the contents of their aqueous cores is another important transport variable. Exchange kinetics have been measured using fluorescence techniques. Mocatta et al. explored the room temperature n- and p-type doping of InAs NCs with Cu or Ag by the addition of the corresponding metal salts dissolved in a mixture of toluene, dodecyl amine and didodecyldimethyl-ammonium bromide to ca. 4nm InAs NCs in toluene. " The Cu-doped InAs NCs showed a blue-shift in the absorption whereas Ag-doped InAs NCs exhibited a red-shift.
