Dictionary Chemical Abstracts Service

There are numerous natural product databases that are used in dereplication such as Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), Berdy s Bioactive Natural Products Database, Dictionary of Natural Products, MarinLit23 and AntiBase.24 Integration of structure-based and chemical shift searches, such as NAPROC-13,25 make these databases even more valuable. AntiMarin is a result of a recent merger between AntiBase and MarinLit 26 MarinLit and AntiMarin are the first commercially available databases that contain structural information (functional groups) as searchable fields.27... 

Journals are in most cases abbreviated according to the CASSI (Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index) system and listed below in alphabetical order. Dictionaries composed of more than one volume are assigned the specific codes. 

Journal abbreviations generally follow the practice of the Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index (CASSI), except for a short list of very well known journals where the Dictionary gives shorter abbreviations to save space (e.g. J.A.C.S. instead of J. Am. Chem. Soc.)... 

The computer translation of systematic chemical nomenclature into chemical structures is now possible. At least three groups have software which demonstrates this. Chemical Abstracts Service has for a long time used software running on mainframe computers to translate names in its style of nomenclature into connection tables. More recently, the Beilstein Institute has developed the VICA name interpreter for an IBM 3090 mainframe. This translates with a high success rate a wide range of names into a connection table using a dictionary of some 3000 name fragments. ...

CHEMLINE (CHEMical dictionary on-LINE) is a file of chemical descriptors created by NLM s Toxicology Information Program in collaboration with Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). This file contains nearly 500,000 chemical substance names representing over 246,000 unique substances. Because of CHEMLINE s unique file design, it has capabilities which support both full structure and substructure searching.
