Diazoxide hyperglycemia caused

Diazoxide may cause hyperglycemia, especially in diabetics, so if the drug is used for several days, blood glucose levels should be measured. 

Diazoxide can cause hyperglycemia and diabetes mellitus and has been used to treat hyperinsulinism in infancy, although its use may be hazardous (329,330). 

Diazoxide may cause hyperglycemia. It is sometimes used to treai hypoglycemia because it can inhibit insulin release. The answer is (B). 

Diazoxide, which is administered intravenonsly, is nsed exclusively in the management of malignant hypertension or a hypertensive crisis. It brings abont reflex cardiac acceleration and increased cardiac ontpnt. However, it can cause hyperglycemia due to its inhibition of insnUn release from the beta cells. Becanse diazoxide also prodnces sodinm and water retention, it shonld be given with a dinretic snch as furosemide or ethacrynic acid. 

Diazoxide is given as intravenous boluses and has a duration of action of several hours. Diazoxide opens potassium channels, thus hyperpolarizing and relaxing smooth muscle cells. This drug also reduces insulin release and can be used to treat hypoglycemia caused by insulin-producing tumors. The toxicity of diazoxide includes hypotension, hyperglycemia, and salt and water retention.
