In principle, DSI is the simplest method for sample introduction into a plasma torch since the sample is placed into the base of the flame, which then heats, evaporates, and ionizes the sample, all in one small region. Inherent sensitivity is high because the sample components are already in the flame. A diagrammatic representation of a DSI assembly is shown in Figure 17.4. [Pg.114]

Diagrammatic representations of the functions in Equation (1.35) cannot be made until we convert them from imaginary into real functions. Exceptions are the functions with = 0, which are already real. [Pg.15]

An event tree provides a diagrammatic representation of event sequences tliat begin with a so-called initiating event and terminate in one or more undesirable consequences. In contrast to a fault tree, which works backward from an undesirable consequence to possible causes, an event tree works forward from the initiating event to possible undesirable consequences. The initiating event may be equipment failure, human error, power failure, or some other event that has the potential for adversely affecting an ongoing process. [Pg.599]

The dilute solutions of elements in solid iron are, at present, the only system for which the thermodynamics has been reasonably well worked out experimentally. The remainder of this section will therefore be devoted to the diagrammatic representation of data for these systems which have been evolved by Richardson... [Pg.1103]

For the usual diagrammatic representation of a polymer chain, this corresponds to the situation where similar substituents lie on the same side of a plane perpendicular to the page and containing the polymer backbone. [Pg.168]

The iower figure indicates that further digestion of factor Xiia by kaiiikrein and piasmin generates factor Xii fragment (Xiif), which is an initiator of the compiement cascade. Both factor Xiif and Cl are inhibited by Cl iNH. Fig. 2. A diagrammatic representation of the piasma kinin-forming cascade indicating the steps inhibitabie by Cl iNH.
