Dextrose *D-Glucose

Dextrose (D-glucose) is by far the most abundant sugar in nature. It occurs either in the monosaccharide form (free state) or in a polymeric form of anhydrodextrose units. As a monosaccharide, dextrose is present in substantial quantities in honey, fmits, and berries. As a polymer, dextrose occurs in starch, cellulose (qv), and glycogen. Sucrose is a disaccharide of dextrose and fmctose.

Dextrose (D-glucose) is the major immediate energy source in PN and is vital for cellular metabolism, body protein preservation, and cellular growth. 

PDCB was prepared by suspending cut-up unpeeled potatoes (100 g L ) and carrots (10 g L ) in purified water and heated to boiling in a microwave oven for 5-10 min. Dextrose (d-(- -)-glucose) was added (30 g L ). The medium was sterilized by autoclaving for 20 min at 121 °C and then decanting off the broth. The broth is clear to slightly opalescent and yellowish in colour. No pH adjustment was made. 

Do not mix or co-infuse ertapenem with other medications. Do not use diluents containing dextrose ( -D-glucose). 

Admixture incompatibiiities Do not mix or coinfuse caspofungin with other medications, because there are no data available on the compatibility of caspofungin with other IV substances, additives, or medications. Do not use diluents containing dextrose ( -d-glucose), because caspofungin is not stable in diluents containing dextrose.

The osazone formed from dextrose (d-glucose) is called d-glucos-azone. It crystallizes from water in yellow needles and melts at 204 -205°.
