Salts are sometimes chosen with regard to their organoleptic properties and, for Instance dextropropoxyphene napsylate (Fig. 3.18), is sometimes used because it is not as bitter as the hydrochloride. [Pg.48]

Levopropoxyphene is the L-isomer of the analgesic agonist dextropropoxyphene. Levopropoxyphene is only mildly antitussive and is rarely used. It has no CNS effects. Side effects include dizziness and nausea. It is available as the napsylate derivative (Novrad) and is taken orally in the form of a liquid or less frequently as a capsule. [Pg.327]

Analgesic efficacy and clinical use Dextropropoxyphene (Grover, 1988) is a moderately potent opioid analgesic often combined with paracetamol or acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs (Collins et al., 2000). As the hydrochloride or napsylate it is used orally for the treatment of mild, moderate, or severe pain (Beaver, 1984). [Pg.183]

Dosages and routes of administration Dextropropoxyphene is mostly administered by the oral route. Parenteral injection and rectal administration is painful and induces tissue damage. The ordinary oral doses are 65 mg of the hydrochloride and 100 mg of the napsylate. [Pg.183]
