Deviation control techniques

Mechanical technique Utilizes bottomhole equipment which is not normally a part of the conventional drillstring to aid deviation control. This equipment acts to force the bit to turn the hole in direction and inclination. [Pg.1080]

The complex of the following destmctive and nondestmctive analytical methods was used for studying the composition of sponges inductively coupled plasma mass-spectrometry (ICP-MS), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), and atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Techniques of sample preparation were developed for each method and their metrological characteristics were defined. Relative standard deviations for all the elements did not exceed 0.25 within detection limit. The accuracy of techniques elaborated was checked with the method of additions and control methods of analysis. [Pg.223]

Two alternative methods have been used in kinetic investigations of thermal decomposition and, indeed, other reactions of solids in one, yield—time measurements are made while the reactant is maintained at a constant (known) temperature [28] while, in the second, the sample is subjected to a controlled rising temperature [76]. Measurements using both techniques have been widely and variously exploited in the determination of kinetic characteristics and parameters. In the more traditional approach, isothermal studies, the maintenance of a precisely constant temperature throughout the reaction period represents an ideal which cannot be achieved in practice, since a finite time is required to heat the material to reaction temperature. Consequently, the initial segment of the a (fractional decomposition)—time plot cannot refer to isothermal conditions, though the effect of such deviation can be minimized by careful design of equipment. [Pg.41]

The statistical techniques applicable to control charts are thus restricted to those of Section 1.5, that is detecting deviations from the long-term mean respectively crossing of the specified limits. [Pg.84]

In designing a continuous plant, therefore, it is essential to establish the measurement and control strategy based on an understanding of which critical aspects are indicative of good or poor plant operation, and how deviation of these measurements can be exploited to perform a corrective process control action. Estabhshing suitable on-hne real-time measurement techniques may be a blocker to the implementation of continuous processing. In contrast, implementation of a successful measurement and control strategy may be the enabler for improved product yields and product quahty. [Pg.326]

The recent liquid phase synthetic techniques provide us the metal nanoparticles with the standard deviation smaller than 10%. So a lot of scientists have been attracted by an investigation on the transition from molecular to bulk properties from both the fundamental and technological points of view. Here we present our recent liquid phase techniques to control the size and composition of Au and FePt nanoparticles. [Pg.361]

Particularly for direct microanalytical techniques using <10 mg of sample for analysis, it is highly desirable to obtain quantitative information on element- and compound-specific homogeneity in the certificates for validation and quality control of measurements. As the mean concentration in a CRM is clearly material-related, the standard deviation of this mean value should represent the element s distribution in this matrix rather than differences in the analytical procedures used. [Pg.130]

The droplet size distribution produced by vaporization-condensation technique is strongly dependent on the chemical composition and properties of the liquid. If well controlled on a small scale, vaporization-condensation technique can produce moderately mono-disperse sprays with geometric standard deviations ranging from about 1.2 to 1.8.[88]... [Pg.62]

Bias. (1) A point of view that prevents impartial judgement on issues relating to that point of view. Clinical trials attempt to control this through double blinding. (2) Any tendency for a value to deviate in one direction from the tme value. Statisticians attempt to prevent this type of bias by various techniques, including randomization. [Pg.991]

As with other spectroscopic techniques, UV-vis spectroscopy can readily be used in lab-based R D. The implementation as process monitors, scanning for deviations from the set state, is certainly an added value and low in maintenance requirements. UV-vis based process control is more demanding on precision, reliability, exactness and operability. The steady progress both in hardware and software is facilitating the growth of UV-vis process analytics in both the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Given the vast increase in information and knowledge-based control, this may just be what the industries need. [Pg.104]

The homogeneous catalysis method is suitable to measure rate constants over a very wide range, up to the diffusion limit. The lower limit is determined by interferences, such as convection, which occur at very slow scan rates. It is our experience that, unless special precautions are taken, scan rates below lOOmV/s result in significant deviations from a purely diffusion-controlled voltammetric wave. For small values of rate constants (down to 10 s ), other potentiostatic techniques are best suited, such as chronoamperometry at a rotating disk electrode UV dip probe and stopped-flow UV-vis techniques. ... [Pg.97]
