The generally acidic materials in this group may function as oxidants, some rather powerful, under appropriate conditions. Individually indexed compounds are Arsenic pentaoxide, 0106 Arsenic trioxide, 0105 Boron trioxide, 0170 Carbon dioxide, 0554 f Carbon monoxide, 0552 f Carbonyl sulfide, 0553 Deuterium oxide, 4285 Diboron oxide, 0169 Dinitrogen oxide, 4739 Dinitrogen pentaoxide, 4743 Dinitrogen tetraoxide, 4720 Dinitrogen trioxide, 4741... 

Although the exchange of the hydroxyl hydrogen in methanol with deuterium in various deuterium compounds such as deuterium oxide and deuterium sulfide has been reported 1-3) and the preparation of methanol-d (CH3OD) by the saponification of esters and decomposition of Grignard reagent with deuterium oxide has been described 4 6), the catalytic exchange of deuterium gas with methanol over Adams platinum catalyst has not been previously studied. 

Hydrogen sulfide is used to separate deuterium oxide, or heavy water, from normal water via the Girdler Sulfide process.
