Detectors advantages

Few authors have coupled HPLC to MIP-AES [680-682], despite the need for a nonmetal element-specific HPLC detector. Advantages of HPLC-He MIP-MS include improved detection for the halogens. The primary disadvantage is the inability of the plasma to tolerate aerosol introduction. [Pg.527]

Note that in liquid phase chromatography there are no detectors that are both sensitive and universal, that is, which respond linearly to solute concentration regardless of its chemical nature. In fact, the refractometer detects all solutes but it is not very sensitive its response depends evidently on the difference in refractive indices between solvent and solute whereas absorption and UV fluorescence methods respond only to aromatics, an advantage in numerous applications. Unfortunately, their coefficient of response (in ultraviolet, absorptivity is the term used) is highly variable among individual components. [Pg.27]

In Dynamic Spatial Reconstructor at the expense of use 2D matrix of detectors there was the opportunity to use a divergent cone beam of source emission. This system had a number of lacks. In particular the number of projections is rigidly limited by the number of x-ray sources. The dispersion of source emission results in errors of data collected.. However the system confirmed basic advantages of application of conic beams and 2D matrices of detectors for collecting information about 3D object. [Pg.217]

Thus, the systems with cone beam and 2D detector have number of the important advantages ... [Pg.217]

Recently, the state-selective detection of reaction products tluough infrared absorption on vibrational transitions has been achieved and applied to the study of HF products from the F + H2 reaction by Nesbitt and co-workers (Chapman et al [7]). The relatively low sensitivity for direct absorption has been circumvented by the use of a multi-pass absorption arrangement with a narrow-band tunable infrared laser and dual beam differential detection of the incident and transmission beams on matched detectors. A particular advantage of probing the products tluough absorption is that the absolute concentration of the product molecules in a given vibration-rotation state can be detenuined. [Pg.2085]

The most common mobile phases for GC are He, Ar, and N2, which have the advantage of being chemically inert toward both the sample and the stationary phase. The choice of which carrier gas to use is often determined by the instrument s detector. With packed columns the mobile-phase velocity is usually within the range of 25-150 mF/min, whereas flow rates for capillary columns are 1-25 mF/min. Actual flow rates are determined with a flow meter placed at the column outlet. [Pg.563]

A major advantage of the TOF mass spectrometer is its fast response time and its applicability to ionization methods that produce ions in pulses. As discussed earlier, because all ions follow the same path, all ions need to leave the ion source at the same time if there is to be no overlap between m/z values at the detector. In turn, if ions are produced continuously as in a typical electron ionization source, then samples of these ions must be utihzed in pulses by switching the ion extraction field on and off very quickly (Figure 26.4). [Pg.192]

The major advantage of array detectors over point ion detectors lies in their ability to measure a range of m/z values and the corresponding ion abundances all at one time, rather than sequentially. For example, suppose it takes 10 msec to measure one m/z value and the associated number of ions (abundance). To measure 100 such ions sequentially with a point ion detector would necessitate 1000 msec (1 sec) for the array detector, the time is still 10 msec because all ions arrive at the same time. Therefore, when it is important to be able to measure a range of ion m/z values in a short space of time, the array detector is advantageous. [Pg.209]

The ions in a beam that has been dispersed in space according to their various m/z values can be collected simultaneously by a planar assembly of small electron multipliers. All ions within a specified mass range are detected at the same time, giving the array detector an advantage for analysis of very small quantities of any one substance or where ions are produced intermittently during short time intervals. [Pg.409]
