All metal parts exposed to the room are made of stainless steel and motors and transmissions are IP 65 to withstand the eflfect of the cleaning agents. The design also takes into account the special considerations necessary for food processing machinery with regards to easy accessibility to all parts and the lack of corners, edges, pockets or other food traps , so that the mechanical system can be easily cleaned. [Pg.592]

Heat/Solvent Recovery. The primary appHcation of heat pipes in the chemical industry is for combustion air preheat on various types of process furnaces which simultaneously increases furnace efficiency and throughput and conserves fuel. Two bag designs are common the valve and the open-mouth types. The valve bag has both ends closed during fabrication, filling being accomplished through a small opening (valve) in one corner of the bag. The open-mouth bag has one end closed at the factoiy and the other after Filhng. [Pg.1954]

Abrupt changes of section cause poor flow and differential shrinkage, giving sink marks (Fig. 28.11 - you can find them on the surface of many small polymer parts), distortion, and internal stress which can lead to cracks or voids. The way out is to design in the way illustrated in Fig. 28.12. Ribs, which are often needed to stiffen polymer parts, should have a thickness of no more than two-thirds of the wall thickness, and a height no more than three times the wall thickness. The more complicated methods of compensation, such as this, allow the designer much more control over the final closed-loop bode response of the system. The poles and zeros can be located independently of one another. Once their frequencies are chosen, the corresponding component values can be easily determined by the step-by-step procedure below. A detailed method of determining pressure coefficients is to perform experiments with a wind tunnel facility. Cochran and Cermak compared wind tunnel pressure coefficient measurements with field measures on a test building and found excellent results, with the exception of small areas beneath the vortices near the upwind roof corner for winds approaching at 45 . The first step in applying FEA is the construction of a model that breaks a component into simple standardized shapes or (usual term) elements located in space by a common coordinate grid system. The coordinate points of the element corners, or nodes, are the locations in the model where output data are provided. In some cases, special elements can also be used that provide additional nodes along their length or sides. Nodal stiffness properties are identified, arranged into matrices, and loaded into a computer where they are processed with certain applied loads and boundary conditions to calculate displacements and strains imposed by the loads (Appendix A PLASTICS DESIGN TOOLBOX). [Pg.128]
