This study was supported, in part, by a grant from the State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture - Pesticides Branch, and by a contractual agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of Health - Office of Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response. 

Provides access to detailed information on all categories of pesticides including herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and rodenticides. Included is information on pesticide toxicity, health effects, residual data, efficacy, and other information. NPIC is a cooperative effort of the U.S. EPA and the Oregon State University Department of Agricultural Chemistry. NPIC is staffed from 6 30 a.m to 4 30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Mirex is not currently registered for use in the United States so release of mirex to soil from pesticide applications is no longer of concern. However, use of mirex as a pesticide for fire ant control required the spraying of this chemical on soils of an estimated 132 million acres in the southern United States (IARC 1979c). An estimated 226,000 kg (498,000 lb) of mirex was used in 9 states from 1962-1976 as part of the fire ant eradication program conducted by the Department of Agriculture (IARC 1979c). 

Every country in the world has found reason to have a patent system. It is intended as an incentive system, an incentive for a major aspect of the economy that which has to do with new products and new ideas, the commercial use of new ideas, and the investment of risk capital in new products. This incentive is more important in some fields than in others. For example, in the pharmaceutical and pesticide fields, one wonders whether there would even be private research without patents. Prom the audience in a different regard, "Different analysts are producing different data sets which are pooled in standard databases. For example, the the database of constituents and nutrients in food is one the Department of Agriculture maintains. Different people submit various analytical levels of these quantities along with various pollutants like pesticide residues and that sort of thing. The question is how can these databases identify method bias which they do not now do How would you identify the data elements that should exist in pooled data bases that would allow bias adjustment to be made " You readers must search for that answer. 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is sponsoring several studies on diazinon. The University of Minnesota is developing and maintaining a network of information resources on the uses, benefits, and hazards of insecticides placed under the EPA Special Review, including diazinon, in the Minnesota Pesticide Impact Assessment Program.
