Stage IV Declining Rate. Definition. The declining rate stage is defined as a period of decreasing rate of reaction which tends to approach a limit in the amount of reactant consumed, or product produced (zero rate), under the prevailing conditions of temperautre, irradiance, partial pressure of oxygen, concentration of reactants, etc. 

With product personalization, volume decreases and the predictability of supply declines. As a result, many companies are facing a new world of defining and managing supply processes for long tail supply chains. By definition, the further out the product portfolio is in the tail, the less efficient the supply chain process, ft is also less suitable for traditional linear optimization technlqnes found in the first generation of snpply chain planning technologies. 

As already mentioned, the d-s RP tends to accumulate towards the end of the infectious cycle, at a time when viral protein and ERA synthesis clearly decline. This led to speculations that RP might represent a simple by-product, a sort of "dead" molecule without any physiological role of its own in the process of RNA synthesis. For the time being there is no definite proof in one sense or the other (see section VIIl). 

At the same time, time to market is more and more important. This leads to the tendency to reduce the development time from product definition to start of production. In the 70s and 80s development cycles could go up to 10 years, whereas the current trend is to achieve cycle times of 30 months or less. To deliver a product at the right point in time contributes direcfly to the revenue. If a car has a delay of 6 months, the lifecycle revenue declines by 30 % [5]. Aligned to the reduction of development time, the production lifecycle was approximately reduced by 30-50 % during the last 30 years.
