Decyl phenyl

In the above-described displacement reactions (S//2) of sulfur and selenium containing compounds, the mechanism could either be a synchronous or a stepwise process (Scheme 3). Thus, in the Sw2 stepwise path an intermediate sulfuranyl or selenanyl radical is formed35 , followed by a-cleavage. Based on competitive studies, a stepwise process was suggested to occur in the reaction of (TMS)3Si" radical with n-decyl phenyl selenide21. On the other hand, ab initio calculations favored the synchronous process and... [Pg.1546]

The acetylation of 2-hydroxy-l-decyl phenyl tellurium was carried out with acetic anhydride in pyridine6. [Pg.456]

Acetoxy-l-decyl Phenyl Tellurium6 0.5 g (1.5 mmol) of 2-hydroxy-1-dccyl phenyl tellurium are dissolved in 1.5 ml of dry pyridine, 1.5 ml of acetic anhydride are added, and the mixture is stirred under nitrogen in the dark for 18 h. The solvent is then evaporated at 20° under oil pump vacuum yield 0.52 g (93%) pale yellow oil. [Pg.456]

For alkyl phenyl ketones with shorter alkyl chains e.g. -butyl and -decyl phenyl ketone), the elimination-to-cyclization ratio is virtually unaltered in the smectic solvent [730]. These ketones are not as rigidly incorporated into the liquid-crystalline lattice as -heptadecyl phenyl ketone and thus are able to disrupt their local smectic environment to a greater extent. Hence, the corresponding conformations of the 1,4-biradical which lead to the elimination products are not more favourable than those which lead to cyc-lization products in the liquid-crystalline solvent. [Pg.301]

Alkyl metals are not suitable for the metallation of tiiese compounds. For example, BuaU reacts at -78 C on the seletuum atom of selenonium salts and produces a novel organolithium in which the carb-aruonic center is more stabilized (Scheme 50, a and b), whereas alkylmagnesium bronudes and chlmides unexpectedly lead to decyl bromide and chloride respectively on reaction with decyl phenyl selenrme (Scheme 50, c). [Pg.648]

A variety of methods for the reduction of sulfoxides to sulfides are available. PI3 rapidly reduces aryl alkyl and dialkyl sulfoxides and selenoxides, usually at —78 °C (eq 3). For example, treatment of ethyl phenyl sulfoxide with 1 equiv of PI3 (CH2CI2, -78 °C, 15 min) affords ethyl phenyl sulfide in 91% yield. Others have successfully employed this procedure. Dialkyl sulfoxides generally react in somewhat lower yield. A phenyl vinyl sulfoxide (eq 3, entry c) requires ambient temperatures to react. Selenoxides behave similarly, and P2I4 can usually be used in place of PI3. Treatment of decyl phenyl selenone with PI3 (CH2CI2, 0 °C, 30 min) affords a mixture of the reduced product, decyl phenyl se-lenide (69%), and the substitution product, n-decyl iodide. ... [Pg.339]
