Many factors must be considered to explain these facts, not least the relative stabilities of the various possible excimers or exciplexes and the accessibility of the pericyclic funnels. (Cf. Scheme 3 in Section 6.2.3.) In addition, the geometrical structure at the funnel and the ground-state relaxation pathways originating in the decay region determine which products will be formed. 

Furthermore the decaying regions are noticed in north China, near Mexico, and India. The decay may connect to deforestation. 

The incipient decay region should not be overlooked as a primary factor in determining the effect of the solidified region on the artifact unit (Figure 14). This field, as the most occluded and restrictive, is often not engaged by the consolidant. As it provides the interface between sound fabric and consolidated fabric, its diminished resistance if often further reduced by hygroscopic and mechanical forces. Failure commonly occurs at the perimeter of the consolidation in an incipient decay field. 

Teeth with decayed regions have traditionally been restored with metals such as silver amalgam. Metallic restorations are not considered desirable for anterior teeth for cosmetic reasons. Acrylic resins and sihcate cements had been used for anterior teeth, but their poor material properties led to short service life and clinical failures. Dental composite resins have virtually replaced these materials and are very commonly used to restore posterior teeth as well as anterior teeth [Cannon, 1988]. 

Such measiuements have been very recently a q>lied with a new FTIR raind-scan mode to charactmze the time dependence of the confcamational tranation in PTMT during str relaxation at different stress levds in the fast and slow decay region. The tacticity or stereochemical configuration of polypropylene is an important product specification which is commonly measured in the laboratory by a time consuming solubility test. On-line NMR can perform this measurement directly on PP powder or pellets. The rapidly decaying region in the FID response of PP has been associated with the isotactic component and the slower decay with the atactic component. The measurement is fully automatic, highly reproducible (0.1%) and takes about three minutes. Applying advanced modelling techniques to the FID responses yields data related to PP tacticity [30].
