Death short-term risk

Short-Term Risk of Death or Nonfatal Myocardial Infarction in Patients Presenting With Unstable Angina... [Pg.22]

Badri M, Lawn SD, Wood R. Short-term risk of AIDS or death in people infected with HIV-1 before antiretroviral therapy in South Africa a longitudinal study. Lancet 2006 368(9543) 1254-9. [Pg.569]

The response to a nuclear explosion differs dramatically from the response to an attack with conventional explosives. When conventional explosives such as dirty bombs disperse radiological materials, the health hazards from the radiation exposure are secondary to the explosion (flying shrapnel, debris, fire, and smoke). In the case of a nuclear explosion, the risks of death, serious short-term health effects, and serious long-term health effects are no longer secondary to the explosion. [Pg.133]

The main limitations of the short-term use of milrinone is the risk of hypotension and ventricular dysrhythmias (9-12) and sudden death has occurred (10). Acute exacerbation of chronic heart failure has also been reported (13). [Pg.2347]

Groundwater pollution by nitrates, which are perhaps the most ubiquitous of all groundwater contaminants, is a widespread problem in many locations in the world. High nitrate concentrations in drinking water present a potential health risk to the public (26). In the short-term effect, excessive levels of nitrate in drinking water have caused serious illness and sometimes death. The serious illness in infants is due to the conversion of nitrate to nitrite by the body, which can interfere with the oxygen-carrying capacity of the child s blood. This can be an acute condition in which health deteriorates rapidly over a period of days. Symptoms include shortness of breath and blueness of the skin. [Pg.284]

RCAs do not usually cause long-term or permanent toxic effects, although the risk for serious toxic effects, long-term sequelae, or even death increases with higher exposure concentrations and greater exposure durations, in enclosed spaces or in susceptible individuals. Overall, however, the toxicity of acute and short-term repeated exposures to RCAs is well characterized. [Pg.2307]
