In contrast, the micrographs of the ionomer pseudo-IPN coatings with opposite charge groups. Figure U- (A-2 to C-2), did not reveal any phase separation. No white particles of the VMCC phase were visible in the dark matrix of the PU phase. Presumably the ionic bonds between the carboxyl and tertiary amine groups provided the best opportunity for interpenetration between the linear chains of VMCC and the networks of PU to prevent any possible phase separation from the ionomer pseudo-IPN microphase. The physical properties of ionomer... [Pg.321]

Figure 9, a fuzzy micrograph at very high magnification, is presented to show an apparent porous structure in fusain. The pores, the small light spots interspersed in the dark matrix, are less than 100 A. in diameter. A previous study has indicated that fusain is the most porous of coal components (5). Of course these ultrafine pores are much smaller than those associated with the ordinary cells of fusain. [Pg.269]

Images, such as the one shown in, Fig. 3.21 (left), can be obtained in flat areas of the ePP film. Since intermediate tapping conditions have been chosen (see Chap. 1 and 2 for details), the stiffer phase will appear with a positive phase shift (i.e. bright contrast), while the less stiff phase will appear dark (less positive phase shift). Based on this crude approximation, the elongated bright features seen in, Fig. 3.21 can be attributed to edge-on lamellae, while the dark matrix can be identified as amorphous phase. A quantitative determination of the lamellar thicknesses of these features... [Pg.107]

Blend of E05/E017 (A = 12 mol %) formed coarse phase-separated morphologies, Figure 2c. The dark matrix was the higher octene, lower modulus eonstituent, and the bright domains were the lower octene, higher modulus constituent. The large domain size and correspondence between the measured phase composition and the blend composition indicated that this blend was immiscible. The blend was also immiscible at all temperatures and compositions studied. [Pg.494]

Several of these morphological factors are illustrated in Figure 1. Figure lA is of the fat portion of bacon and has been stained for connective tissue. It is noted that fat tissue is not all lipid but has an extensive connective tissue component ranging from fairly thick layers to delicate layers defining each adipose cell. Figure IB is from a finely chopped emulsion. Connective tissue pieces are stained dark, the protein matrix is gray and the... [Pg.291]
