Methyl acetoacetate (MAA) and ethyl acetoacetate (EAA) are the most widely used esters they are found ia the pharmaceutical, agricultural, and allied industries. Both esters are used extensively as amine protecting agents ia the manufacture of antibiotics and synthetic sweeteners (Dane Salts) (147). Principal outiets for MAA are the manufacture of the organophosphoms insecticide dia2inon [33341-5] (148,149) and the uracil herbicides bromacil [31440-9] and terbacil [5902-51-2] (150,151) (see Insect conztiol technology Herbicides). [Pg.481]

The primary manufacturers of daylight-fluorescent pigment at the present time are Dane and Co. (London) Day-Glo Color Corp. (Cleveland, Ohio) Nippon Keiko Kagaku Co. Ltd. (Tokyo) Nippon Shokubai (Osaka) Lawter Chemical Corp. (Skokie, Illinois) Radiant Color, Division of Magmder (Elizabeth, New Jersey) Sinloihi Co., Ltd. (Kamakura, Japan) and U.K. Seung (Busan, Korea). Smaller regional manufacturers are located in China, India, Russia, and Brazil. [Pg.295]

A domino reaction,in this case consisting of an inter- and an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction, is a key step in the synthesis of the hydrocarbon pago-dane 30, reported by Prinzbach et al When the bis-diQnQ 27 is treated with maleic anhydride 4, an initial intermolecular reaction leads to the intermediate product 28, which cannot be isolated, but rather reacts intramolecularly to give the pagodane precursor 29 ... [Pg.94]

It is quickly deacylated in vivo and may qualify as a prodrug. The published synthesis is rather long and bears conceptual similarities to the synthesis of cannabinoids. It has some five asymmetric centers. Several electrical scientists in the early part of the nineteenth century, influenced at least in part by their understanding of German natiirplnlosophie, expected forces of nature to be intimately connected to each other, and some of them spent extraordinary amounts of time looking for the relationship. One of these was a Dane, Hans Christian Oersted, who, after an exhaustive series of experiments, in 1820 found that electricity could indeed produce a magnetic effect. Further experiments by Michael Faraday demonstrated, in 1821, that by proper orientation of an electric current and a magnetic field it was possible to produce continuous motion in what soon would be called a motor. It took an additional ten frustrating years for him to prove what he instinctively felt to be true, that, in a fashion inverse to what... [Pg.395]

A different approach has been used for the synthesis of amoxicillin (Figure 6.18). Based on the application of the inexpensive Dane salt of 4-hydroxyphenylglydne, a process has been developed giving the required compound in almost quantitative yield. [Pg.178]
