Damages general

At the initial stages of a release, when the benzene-derived compounds are present at their highest concentrations, acute toxic effects are more common than they are later. These noncarcinogenic effects include subtle changes in detoxifying enzymes and liver damage. Generally, the relative aquatic acute toxicity of petroleum will be the result of the fractional toxicities of the different hydrocarbons present in the aqueous phase. Tests indicate that naphthalene-derived chemicals have a similar effect. [Pg.117]

A pharmacy, like any other business entity, needs to protect itself, its employees, and its customers from physical and financial harm. No matter how careful a pharmacy is about preventing risks, it is practically impossible to eliminate accidents, such as when a customer or employee slips on the pharmacy s floor. At the same time, insuring for these risks does not eliminate the need for pharmacies to take effective risk prevention measures. Indeed, insurers commonly require that pharmacies have risk prevention measures in place to keep insurance policies in good standing for these risks or to reduce premiums. For instance, insurance for fire damage generally requires a sprinkler system or smoke detectors or alarms. [Pg.492]

Modem methods of bleaching wool is directed towards the control of chemical damages during the treatment. Chemical damage generally occurs due to excessive rapid decomposition of H O. The reaction of wool with is relatively slow in... [Pg.355]

These compounds were tested against a series of Lepidoptera including Plutella xylostella Px, diamondback moth), Hdiothis virescens Hv, tobacco budworm), and Spodopterafrugiperda (Sf, fall armyworm). Insecticidal activity is reported in Tables I-111 as percent plant protection at various concentrations where reduction in plant damage generally resulted from insect mortality rather than cessation of feeding. [Pg.144]

Site area emergency Major decrease in level of safety-—one more failure or remaining at this state for extended time could result in core damage (General Emergency) Off-site doses a fraction of the PAGs Fully activate response Evacuate non-essential personnel Implement radiation protection for staff Conduct monitoring off-site Fully activate response Alert the population to the problem... [Pg.190]
