Damage plasma membranes

Ungemach, F.R. (1985). Plasma membrane damage of hepato-cytes following lipid peroxidation involvement of phospholipase A2. In Free Radicals in Liver Injury (eds. G. Poli, K.H. Cheeseman, M.U. Dianzani and T.F. Slater) pp. 127-134. IRL Press, Oxford. [Pg.96]

In 1986, the antioxidant effects of thioredoxin reductase were studied by Schallreuter et al. [81]. It has been shown that thioredoxin reductase was contained in the plasma membrane surface of human keratinocytes where it provided skin protection against free radical mediated damage. Later on, the reductive activity of Trx/thioredoxin reductase system has been shown for the reduction of ascorbyl radical to ascorbate [82], the redox regulation of NFkB factor [83], and in the regulation of nitric oxide-nitric oxide synthase activities [84,85],... [Pg.913]

Investigations of the cellular effects of radiofrequency radiation provide evidence of damage to various types of avian and mammalian cells. These effects involve radiofrequency interactions with cell membranes, especially the plasma membrane. Effects include alterations in membrane cation transport, Na+/K+-ATPase activity, protein kinase activity, neutrophil precursor membrane receptors, firing rates and resting potentials of neurons, brain cell metabolism, DNA and RNA synthesis in glioma cells, and mitogenic effects on human lymphocytes (Cleary 1990). [Pg.1699]
