Composition Besides the main component 1,8- cineole minor components ate a- pinenes, p-cymol (see cymenes), limonene (see p-menthadienes), and trans-pinocarveol (see pinenols). 

CompositionThe main components are limonene (50-60%) and y-terpinene (see p-menthadienes) (10-20%). In contrast to pressed L. the distilled oil contains many components that are formed during the production process by action of the acidic juice on the oil liberated from of the fruit skin. Thus, under the conditions of distillation components such as p-cymol (see cymenes), 1,4- and l,8- cineole, fenchol, bomeol, a- and 8-terpineol (seep-menthenols), etc. are formed. All these compounds are either not present or are present in much lower concentrations in pressed oil. 

Oil of Chenopodium (wormseed oil). Essential oil obtained from Chenopodium ambrosioides var. anthel-minticum (goosefoot), previously used in humans and animals against worm parasites (eelworms and hookworms). O. C. is no longer used in human medicine on account of its side effects. O.C. contains mainly ascaridole (60-75%), ascaridole glycol, p-cymol (20-30%, see cymenes), a-terpinene, limo-nene. 

Composition The main component and decisive for the organoleptic impression is thymol (see cymenols) (over 50%), followed by p-cymol (see cymenes) (ca. 20%). 

Phytochemistry Seeds contain up to 3 % essential oils (carene, cymol, teipinolene, carvone, linalool, carvacrol) and 13.6 % oils and proteins (Khahnatov and Kosimov 1994). Essential oil collected from plants in Iran contained mostly monoter-penes and phenylpropanoids, such as a-pinene, p-cymene, limonene, y-terpinene, cuminaldehyde, cuminyl alcohol, myristicin, and dillapiole (Jassbi et al. 2005).
