In addition to the techniques outlined above, many other methods have been developed for droplet sizing. These include, for example, intensity ratio method, phase optical-microwave method, and dual-cylindrical wave laser technique)1(n etc. 

The reason for the intractability of the anisotropic sphere scattering problem is the fundamental mismatch between the symmetry of the optical constants and the shape of the particle. For example, the vector wave equation for a uniaxial material is separable in cylindrical coordinates that is, the solutions to the field equations are cylindrical waves. The basic differences between spherical and cylindrical symmetry are in the propagation equations for the water and expln products, the equations of state and the shock front conditions remaining unchanged. Thus, even for acoustic waves, pressure for cylindrical waves varies as r-1/2 F(t—r/c0) where F is an undetermined function, as compared with r 1 F(t—r/c0), valid at any distance for acoustic spherical waves. The development of a finite amplitude theory will not therefore be as simply related to the actual state of affairs, and errors incurred in approximations used will be larger than for spherical waves...

If we limit ourselves to scan the yz plane, the orthogonal terms x P are either zero or cancel when k varies. We then note that (3.27) and (3.28) are similar as far as variation in the z direction is concerned, which should not surprise us since Floquet s theorem is valid for both cases in this direction. The radiation incident on a dielectric cylinder (e.g., an optical fiber), is scattered in a way that is dependent on the parameters of the cylinder (refractive index n, outer diameter a). The scattering problem is generally treated with the aid of an expansion in a series of Bessel and Hankel functions (cylindrical waves). 

Neutrons with sufficiently long wavelengths can be reflected from some surfaces in the same way as light can be reflected from the interface between two transparent media. Cold neutrons, then, can be guided down cylindrical wave guides without the normal l/r attenuation and can be bent out of the line-of-sight paths followed by other radiation.
