Cyclodextrin-based functional monomers

Roche et al. developed a surface plasmon resonance sensor for dextromethorphan based on a molecularly imprinted beta-cyclodextrin polymer with a detection limit of 0.035 pM and a dynamic range of 0.035 pM to 6.00 mM, depending on the instrumental setup [412]. Recently Al-Mustafa etal. have reported liquid selective electrodes for dextromethorphan, based on liquid membranes or graphite electrodes coated with polymers of acrylic acid and 2-vinyl pyridine functional monomers and ethylene... 

The living character of the ring opening metathesis polymerization described earlier in this review enables a simple preparation of functionalized norbornene-based monoliths. Adding one more in situ derivatization step that involves functional norborn-2-ene and 7-oxanorborn-2-ene monomers that react with the surface-bound initiator, the pores were provided with a number of typical functional groups such as carboxylic acid, tertiary amine, and cyclodextrin [58,59]. 

Dendrimers are polymeric molecules composed of multiple branched monomers radially emanating from a central core. Dendrimers based on polymers such as polyamidoamines (PAMAMs) and poly(propylene imine) can form compact polycations under physiological conditions and, therefore, have been of interest to researchers for use in gene delivery both in vivo and in vitro [78,89,90]. They can also be functionalized with other molecules such as a-cyclodextrin [91], PEG [92], etc. to enhance gene integration and expression. However, the use of dendrimers for in vitro gene delivery into somatic and stem cells has not yet been demonstrated.
