Finding the Cyathophorum bulbosum-C. adiantum clade as the sister to the remainder of the Hypopterygiaceae confirms the earher molecular analyses by Blocher and Capesius (2002), Buck et al. (2005), and some of our preliminary analyses. This clade is defined by three synapomorphic genetic character states, viz. one substitution in the tmh region and two in the rps4 gene.
