Validation Once a structure has been determined, it is validated using a custom structure validation system (Badger and Hendle, 2002) to detect local errors. The system is based on PROCHECK (Morris efaJ., 1992), WHATCHECK(Vriend, 1990), SFCHECK (Vaguine ef ah, 1999), and PHISTATS and OVFRLAPMAP (from CCP4). [Pg.186]

However, in order to gain an overview of the customer structure of a firm, the number of potential customers first needs to be evaluated. Taking a supplier in the automotive industry as an example, possible customers are automobile... [Pg.181]

A challenging task in material science as well as in pharmaceutical research is to custom tailor a compound s properties. George S. Hammond stated that the most fundamental and lasting objective of synthesis is not production of new compounds, but production of properties (Norris Award Lecture, 1968). The molecular structure of an organic or inorganic compound determines its properties. Nevertheless, methods for the direct prediction of a compound s properties based on its molecular structure are usually not available (Figure 8-1). Therefore, the establishment of Quantitative Structure-Property Relationships (QSPRs) and Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships (QSARs) uses an indirect approach in order to tackle this problem. In the first step, numerical descriptors encoding information about the molecular structure are calculated for a set of compounds. Secondly, statistical and artificial neural network models are used to predict the property or activity of interest based on these descriptors or a suitable subset. [Pg.401]

Specific identity of a toxic chemical to be a trade secret, the notice to your customer(s) must contain a generic chemical name that Is descriptive of the structure of that toxic chemical. For example, decabromodiphenyl oxide could be described as a halogenated aromatic. [Pg.95]

Don t rely on informal customer feedback. Deliberately seek out feedback using a structured and professionally designed survey tool. [Pg.131]

By 1993, the structure of the interstate pipeline industi y had undergone dramatic changes. The interstates, which once had acted as both transporters and merchants of natural gas, bundling the sale and transmission of gas into one sei"vice, were required to separate these seiwices and give pipeline customers the opportunity to contract for only those services they needed. [Pg.838]

The labor-intensive nature of polymer tensile and flexure tests makes them logical candidates for automation. We have developed a fully automated instrument for performing these tests on rigid materials. The instrument is comprised of an Instron universal tester, a Zymark laboratory robot, a Digital Equipment Corporation minicomputer, and custom-made accessories to manipulate the specimens and measure their dimensions automatically. Our system allows us to determine the tensile or flexural properties of over one hundred specimens without human intervention, and it has significantly improved the productivity of our laboratory. This paper describes the structure and performance of our system, and it compares the relative costs of manual versus automated testing. [Pg.45]
