Molded current collector

A typical cell construction is shown in Figure 10.3. Natural manganese dioxide ore is blended with acetylene black and Leclanche electrolyte, and molded into a round bobbin shape with a carbon rod current collector in the center. This molded cathode is then inserted into a zinc can. A paste-coated paper separates the zinc can and the Mn02 cathode. This provides a barrier to prevent solid particles... [Pg.414]

Molded carbon current collectors are a major result of the technology development program. The function of the current collector is to ... [Pg.212]

Figure 9 shows one of the 21/2 ft2 electrolyte and electrode assemblies which, in conjunction with a molded carbon current collector (shown in Figure 7) and suitable anode and cathode supports, form a bipolar cell. The cells are assembled between pneumatically loaded end plates to form an electrolysis module. [Pg.215]

The outermost element of the unit cell (Figs 1 and 2) is the current collector plate, which typically contains a machined or molded gas flow field. These two functions of current collector and gas flow field may be fulfilled, in principle, by two separate components however, in most of the cells and stacks built to date, the flow field is introduced as part of the current collector fabrication process. A current collector plate, with machined or molded flow field on each of its sides, becomes the... [Pg.552]

Another cylindrical cell is the inside-out construction shown in Fig. 8.4. This construction does not use the zinc anode as the container. This version resulted in more efficient zinc utilization and improved leakage, but has not been manufactured since the late 1960s. In this cell, an impact-molded impervious inert carbon wall serves as the container of the cell and as the cathode current collector. The zinc anode, in the shape of vanes, is located inside the cell and is surrounded by the cathode mix. [Pg.191]

FIGURE 10.7 Fabrication of polymer/carbon architectures for bioelectrodes, (a) (1) Sucrose template is mixed with (2) carbon nanofibers and placed in a (3) Teflon mold along with a Ni mesh current collector attached to a Ti wire, (b) The mixture is coated with liquid PHBV polymer, (c) After the polymer solidifies, the composite is submerged in water to dissolve the sucrose template leaving behind a conductive porous architecture [21]. [Pg.197]
