Aoet tes.—OopBio Aobtatb—Diacetate—Crystals of Venus—Cupri ace-tas V iR)—0u(C, 0,), + Aq—181.2 4- 18—is formed when CuO or verdigris is dissolved in acetic acid or by decomposition of a solution of CuSO. by Pb(C, 0-) It crystalHzes in large, bluish-green prisms, which lose their Aq at 140 (284 F.). At 240 -260 (464 -600 R) they are deoompoeed with liberation of glacial acetic add. [Pg.144]

Binacetate of Copper. Verdigris, dissolved iu vinegar with too aid of heat, forms dark green or blue crystals of binacetate of copper. This is the commercial acetate of copper. [Pg.260]

A philosophical spirit of wine prepared by repeatedly distilling alcohol with oil of vitriol must have contained ether. Volatile vitriol of Venus (copper acetate), obtained in blue crystals from a solution of verdigris in distilled vinegar, yields on distillation and rectification a colourless spirit of Venus (esprit de Venus), i.e. concentrated acetic acid. Spirit of Saturn is distilled from sugar of lead (sucre ou sel de Satume). The distillation of amber yields a spirit, an oil, and volatile salt (succinic acid) of acid taste, soluble in water, which can be sublimed in white crystals. One of Le Fevre s special preparations was a volatile salt of vipers obtained by distillation, and he extols the virtues of tobacco. ... [Pg.24]

A synthetic, neutral copper acetate with the formula Cu(CH3 C00)2.H20 (Rahn-Koltermann et al., 1991 Scott, 2002). This compound is the most common copper acetate and the most easily prepared using modem chemical techniques. This is compound F in Scott s (2002) classification. It was originally synthesised by dissolving crude verdigris in vinegar, the crystals left to precipitate on wooden sticks. [Pg.121]
