Crushing rollers

In the factory processes the sticklac is first passed through crushing rollers and sieved. The lac passes through the sieve but retains the bulk of the woody matter. The sieved lac is then washed by a stream of water and dried by a current of hot air. A second mechanical cleaning process removes small sticks which have not been removed in the earlier roller process. The product, seedlac, now contains 3-8% of impurities.

The gun cotton itself Is mainly common cotton waste stet ped in nitric acid, and on the excess being forced out by a hydraulic press or otherwise, it is left some time for digestion In vessels of clay. The charge was drawn into iron pots, cooled, and ground to a desired size with cast iron, toothed, crushing rollers. If drawn into water, it would break into small fragments which were difficult to dry. However they were readily dissolved by heating the water. The disilicate was easier to dissolve and was recommended for the calico printers. With soda ash as alkali source he could draw six charges a day. 

Applications. Applications for Alloy 6B include half sleeves and half bushings in screw conveyors, tUe-making machines, rock-crushing rollers, and cement and steel mill equipment.
