Crankcase dilution

Crankcase Dilution of Motor Oil/Carbon Deposits in Combustion Chamber of Gasoline and Diesel Engines... [Pg.134]

Carbon residue and crankcase dilution can increase if the 90% point of diesel is high. [Pg.259]

A high 90% point and end point can lead to poor mixing in the combustion chamber, increased hydrocarbon emissions, combustion chamber deposits, and crankcase dilution. [Pg.261]

Crankcase Dilution Dilution of lubricating oil in the oil pan or sump of an engine by fuel which has entered the crankcase. [Pg.344]

The boiling range governs the ease of starting, rate of acceleration, loss by crankcase dilution, and tendency toward vapor lock somewhat as indicated in Fig. 3-3. Holaday and HappeP utilize the percentage disr ... [Pg.39]

The flash point of an oil is the temperature at which it gives off, under specified conditions, sufficient vapor to form a flammable mixture with air. This is very different from the temperature of spontaneous combustion. The test is an empirical one and the result depends upon the instm-ment used and the prescribed conditions. For example, the flash point may be closed or open , depending on whether the test apparatus has a lid or not. As far as lubricating oils are concerned, the test is of limited significance, although it can be indicative of contamination (for example, the dilution of crankcase oil by fuel). [Pg.846]

Crankcase oil dilution is minimal so engine life is increased. [Pg.107]

For example, if the 90% distillation temperature rises above 340°F (171.1 °C) when the outside temperature is below 40°F (4.4°C), crankcase oil dilution with gasoline may increase. [Pg.135]

Viable cell counts SRB APB Other organisms Most probabie number Sample is diluted into a series of tubes of specific growth medium. Cell numbers based on growth at various dilutions. Dip siides A tab coated with growth medium is immersed, then incubated two to five days. Microbial colonies are counted visually. Commercially available kits can be inoculated in the field, but growth takes days to weeks. Crude numbers of bacteria, yeast, or fungi can be estimated in contaminated crankcase oil or fuels. Commercial kits require minimal cost and expertise. [Pg.418]
