Tensile Strength 2.8 GPa Tensile Modulus 172 GPa Strain to Failure 1 % 

The mechanical properties of this specification are almost exactly the properties of an early type of fiber made by Courtaulds, designated Type A, and very similar to a fiber type made by Rolls Royce. These fibers were very sensitive to surface treatment and were used in the untreated form with brittle resin systems like epoxy novalacs. 

Based on a manufacturing cost model proposed by Cohn and Das [27] and assuming the use of a 50k large tow PAN precursor to make 10 kg per year of carbon fiber on a single line
