An important class of materials that originates from the precursor core-shell particles is hollow capsules. Hollow capsules (or shells ) can be routinely produced upon removal of the core material using chemical and physical methods. Much of the research conducted in the production of uniform-size hollow capsules arises from their scientific and technological interest. Hollow capsules are widely utilized for the encapsulation and controlled release of various substances (e.g., drugs, cosmetics, dyes, and inks), in catalysis and acoustic insulation, in the development of piezoelectric transducers and low-dielectric-constant materials, and for the manufacture of advanced materials [14],... [Pg.505]

Food, drug, and cosmetic dyes. Most synthetic and natural dyes commonly used in food, drugs, and cosmetics are carefully controlled materials, regulated by the government agencies in the EEC, the United States, and Japan. These currently consist of very few (under 100) dyes and are listed in the approved list. Regulations list the approved color additives and conditions under which they may be safely used, including the amounts that may be used. [Pg.267]

Color additives are of particular importance to the formulation of cosmetics. Dyes and pigments not only make products more attractive but also are vital to any product that is intended to alter the color of any part of the body. Color additives are regulated... [Pg.799]

There are some cautions with the CFR lists. First, manufacturers may not always submit materials to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for listing in the CFR. They may not want to take the time or incur the costs if they see only a limited market for their material in the pharmaceutical or food market. Second, some materials, such as 2-MCBT, which is not permitted by the FDA, are listed but are strongly discouraged. Finally, some materials listed in the CFR, such as food, drug, and cosmetic dyes, are really not applicable for rubber compounds used for pharmaceuticals. Many of these dyes are water-soluble and are not applicable for rubber formulations that come in contact with aqueous solutions, since the dyes could be extracted from the rubber and discolor the drug. [Pg.1468]

In the last decade hollow spheres are extensively studied in the context of application as containers of prolonged action for substances of the different chemical nature dmgs, cosmetics, dye. A number of methods for preparation of microspheres with the sizes ranging from nanometers to micrometers and consisting of various materials are developed. Polyelectrolye capsules have been produced by sequential adsorption of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes, also known as Layer-by-Layer (LbL) assembly onto the surface of colloidal particles followed by core dissolution [1-2]. Most of the capsules applications imply their chemical or physicochemical modification by influence of the ionic strength [3], pH [3], temperature... [Pg.349]
