For a two-dimensional wavy channel, a numerical analysis performed at GRETh (69) has shown that the mixing efficiency of corrugated channels is excellent because one corrugation is nearly sufficient to have perfect mixing (Figure 35). [Pg.160]

Interestingly, an innovative design has been described recently by the Fraunhofer IGB, Germany [27], allowing the production of flat membrane modules with an effective filtration area of 1 m (Figure 6.17a). This concept is based on novel flat ceramic supports specially processed to produce corrugated channels and able to receive micro- and ultrafiltration membranes (Figure 6.17b). [Pg.153]

A zigzag geometry with rounded corners was studied in 2D by Xin and Tao [40] using the finite-volume method. The Prandtl number was kept fixed at 0.7 and the Reynolds number was varied between 100 and 1000. For the range of geometry parameters considered, a heat-transfer-enhancement factor of about 3 was found at Re = 1000, thus confirming the potential of corrugated channels for heat-transfer enhancement. [Pg.41]

Design Standard channel-plate designs, unique to each manufacturer, are developed with limited modifications of each plates corrugation depths and included angles. Manufacturers combine their different style plates to custom-fit each seiwice. Due to the possible combinations, it is impossible to present a way to exactly size PHEs. However, it is possible to estimate areas for new units and to predict performance or existing units with different conditions (chevron-type channel plates are presented). [Pg.1083]

The fixed length and limited corrugation included angles on channel plates makes the NTU method of sizing practical. (Waterlike fluids are assumed for the following examples). [Pg.1083]

The corrugations on the plates will increase the projected plate area, and reduce the effective gap between the plates. For rough sizing, where the actual plate design is not known, this increase can be neglected. The channel width equals the plate pitch minus the plate thickness. [Pg.760]

A number of flat membranes are stacked with appropriate supporters (spacers) between the membranes, making alternate channels for the feed (retentate) and the permeate. Meshes, corrugated spacers, porous plates, grooved plates, and so on, can be used as supporters. Ihe channels for feed distribution and permeate collection are built into the device. Rectangular or square membrane sheets are common, but some modules use round membrane sheets. [Pg.141]
