Corrective action, management program elements

DOE 0 151.1A, Chapter IV, sec. 4b 4.4.5 A formal exercise program shall be established to validate all elements of the emergency management program over a multiyear period. Each exercise shall have specific objectives and shall be fully documented. Exercises shall be evaluated using an established critique process. Corrective actions shall be identified and incorporated into the program. 

The objective of safe radioactive waste management is to protect human beings and the environment now and in the future om adverse effects of radioactive waste. Short lived low and imeimediate level waste may be disposed of in near surface repositories. At he end of its operation the repository is closed and then may enter into a institutitmal control period. Even before closure, the elements necessary to monitor and maintain the repository, to perform, if necessary, corrective actions and to understand any accidental phenomena must be gathered and recorded. Moreover the surveillance program and the organization responsible for the institutional control must be defined. 

The corrective action program should be viewed as one key element of the semiconductor facility s environmental due diligence program. It should be portrayed as an honest effort by the corporation to be a good corporate citizen rather than a draconian criminal detection system aimed at employees. The purpose, after all, is to detect, correct, and prevent problems in order that the corporation and individuals can be successful in meeting both your business and environmental management goals and objectives.
