Core-last

Depending on the target structure and on the availability of initiators and linkers, three main methods can be applied for the synthesis core-first techniques, core-last techniques, and mixed techniques. [Pg.5]

The word dendrimer is derived from the Greek words for tree- or branchlike (dendron) and part (meros). The strictly controlled structure of ideal dendrimers results from the layered assembly of BC surrounding the core, which is attained through sequential reaction cycles. This can be achieved in two different ways, namely, by divergent (core-first) or convergent (arm-first/core-last) methods. [Pg.561]

Difunctional monomers such as DVB or divinyl ether have been found to be efficient in the synthesis of star (co)polymers having a cross-linked core from which homopolymer or block copolymer arms radiate outwards. However, so far only core last method has been reported in cationic polymerization. This method is particularly suited to prepare stars with many arms. The average number of arms per molecule is a function of several experimental and structural parameters. [Pg.808]

There are several issues to consider when using ECP basis sets. The core potential may represent all but the outermost electrons. In other ECP sets, the outermost electrons and the last filled shell will be in the valence orbital space. Having more electrons in the core will speed the calculation, but results are more accurate if the —1 shell is outside of the core potential. Some ECP sets are designated as shape-consistent sets, which means that the shape of the atomic orbitals in the valence region matches that for all electron basis sets. ECP sets are usually named with an acronym that stands for the authors names or the location where it was developed. Some common core potential basis sets are listed below. The number of primitives given are those describing the valence region. [Pg.84]

The number of possible ways to form antiparallel p structures is very large. The number of topologies actually observed is small, and most p structures fall into these three major groups of barrel structures. The last two groups—the Greek key and jelly roll barrels—include proteins of quite diverse function, where functional variability is achieved by differences in the loop regions that connect the p strands that build up the common core region. [Pg.85]

The helices at the N-terminal regions of the two polypeptide chains are intertwined and make extensive contacts in the central part of the molecule to form a stable core. This core supports two "heads", each comprising the last three helices from one polypeptide chain. Alpha helix 3 in the middle of the subunit chain is quite long and forms the main link between the core and the head. [Pg.142]

The +5V winding is wound first, distributed equally around the circumference of the toroid. Next the primary/+24 V bundle is wound evenly around the core. Tastly, the +12 V and -12 V bundle is wound on the core. This winding can physically squeeze between the last winding. [Pg.108]

As described in Chapter 1, the three largest radiological accidents of the last twenty years tire tlie explosion at Chernobyl, the partial core meltdown at Three Mile Island Unit 2, tuid the mishandling of a radioactive source in Brazil. The least publicized, but perhaps tlie most appropriate of tliese accidents, witli respect to waste management, was tlie situation in Brazil. [Pg.193]

Three LMTO envelopes were used with the tail energies -0.01 Ry, -1 Ry and -2.3 Ry. In the first two of them, s,p,d orbitals were included and in the last one only. s and p were used. It was necessary to treat the Ti 3p and 3-s states in the semi-core state, i.e. to do a so called 2-panel calculation. The basis set for the second panel consisted of 3-s, 3p, 3d orbitals on the Ti sites and 3-s, 3p orbitals on the Si sites. The same quality k-mesh was used in all calculations to ensure maximum cancellation of numerical errors and to obtain accurate energy differences. [Pg.192]

In the United States, outside of the core areas of older major cities, transit has become the transport of last resort. There is a substantial social stigma attached to using transit, due to the low income levels of transit patrons in most U.S. cities. Transit customers also sometimes fear their vulnerability to crime, especially while waiting at bus stops. [Pg.768]

Where the available water has a high proportion of solids, there are methods either of pretreating the water or, by agitating the water in the centre of the block (which freezes last), of removing the concentrated dirty water before it becomes solid. The core is then refilled with fresh water [30]. [Pg.146]
