Core elements in EMS and environmental reporting

The common core components of environmental management systems and environmental reporting are  

Public Environmental Reporting Initiative (PERI) [16] as well as in the standards and regulations discussed earlier in this chapter. 

The information on management and the management system should comprise information on the corporate environmental policies, scope, content, environmental goals and the frequency of their revision. 

A description of the company environmental management structure including staff, relationships, responsibilities and procedures of implementation of policies and goals in the organisation should be provided. This should include information on the environmental management system in place, programmes of improvement of environmental performance. Examples of reports providing this are National Westminster Bank Pic 1994, Daimler Benz 1995, Pharmacia 1994, and Baxter 1994. 

Use of chemicals and materials an inventory of the environmentally relevant chemicals and materials used is a primary requirement. These data should preferably be presented in the form of mass balances [17].
