A small portion of vinyl chloride is produced from ethane via the Transcat process. In this process a combination of chlorination, oxychlo-rination, and dehydrochlorination reactions occur in a molten salt reactor. The reaction occurs over a copper oxychloride catalyst at a wide temperature range of 310-640°C. During the reaction, the copper oxychloride is converted to copper(I) and copper(II) chlorides, which are air oxidized to regenerate the catalyst. Figure 6-1 is a flow diagram of the Transcat process for producing vinyl chloride from ethane. ... [Pg.171]

The copper compounds include Bordeaux mixture and the so-called fixed coppers including the copper oxides, copper oxychloride, copper oxychloride sulfate, and related materials. Bordeaux mixture, since its discovery about 70 years ago, has been the classic fungicide for the control of late blight and still is more widely used than any other single material. Certain of its qualities, particularly adhesiveness, remain unequaled by its commercial competitors, and it is cheap and effective. However, the inconvenience of preparing Bordeaux mixture, and the unreliable quality of hydrated lime available in most places, have tempted many growers to switch to other copper compounds or organics. [Pg.7]

Basic copper sulfate, copper oxychloride sulfate and derivations of these products are used to control mildews, rots, blight and leafspots on many crops. These can be effective but may also damage plants. [Pg.15]

Ferrandon, et a1. (2008) have demonstrated experimentally the scientific practicality of the hydrolysis reaction to produce HC1 gas and solid copper oxychloride. In order to vary the particle sizes, the material was first dried in a dessicator, cmshed and sieved to the desired particle sizes and then re-hydrated. During the hydrolysis experiments, the sample was heated rapidly (within 10 minutes) in humidified Ar to the reaction temperature, between 300 and 400°C, and then held at the test temperature for a fixed period. [Pg.230]
