Extractions performed with the conveyor stopped allow more assured accuracy by the certainty of including fines in the sample increment. Sampler design to extract increments from a flat belt or rotaiw table sampler while the conveyor is stopped minimizes potential for residual fine particles remaining on the conveyor surface in carrying out extractions. Flat-Belt Conveyors These powered conveyors can lift containers up inchnes. With the aid of special belt surfacing, grades may be quite steep. Belts also keep containers spaced out in exactly the way in which they are placed on the conveyor. However, because of the relatively high fric tion containers cannot be slid off belts by pushing devices. [Pg.1977]

Belt-conveyor designs use both roller and shder bed supports for the flat belt. The variety of designs available aUows proper selection of flat belts for heavy or hght loads and for various applications such as carton filling or emptying. [Pg.1977]

Just at the time construction work in No. 20 District was coming to a close, agitation from the RAOC in favour of belt conveyors for ammunition transport was having some success. By way of experiment, the trough belt conveyor installed in the slope-shaft for waste disposal was converted to a flat belt to carry ammunition. Belt conveyors come in a wide variety of forms. The simplest form is a flat belt conveyor, which is often roller supported (i.e., there is a series of rollers placed underneath the belt). Belt conveyors are typically driven by a drive puUey/roUer connected to an electric motor. For conveying items that may not be containerized, however, belt conveyors can also be of the slider-bed-supported type, where a flat metal surface is placed underneath the belt. An everyday example of the sUder-bed supported belt conveyor can be found at the check-out lanes of most grocery stores. [Pg.1513]

There are basically two types of conveyors available belt and flat-top chain. Both do the same job, but a belt conveyor is quieter and can offer more conveying surface. Also, from a maintenance standpoint, a belt conveyor is easier to use. [Pg.572]

Alternative designs to the conventional belt conveyors include steep-angle and vertical conveying systems with the surface worked into pockets formed by high sidewalls and scoop cleats, and hose-belt or tube conveyors in which the flat belt is shaped by means of concave idlers and guide rollers to overlap the belt edges (Bahke, 1991). [Pg.143]

Flat Belting and Slab Cures - In articles of this type, the press platens and side strips control the dimensions of the finished article. Belting structures of both transmission and conveyor types are built to their approximate finished shapes before curing. The fabrics they contain have been dried and stretched before frictioning and skim coating, and an additional stretch is applied to each section in the press prior to and during cure. [Pg.256]
