Conversion budget

The objective of any exploration venture is to find new volumes of hydrocarbons at a low cost and in a short period of time. Exploration budgets are in direct competition with acquisition opportunities. If a company spends more money finding oil than it would have had to spend buying the equivalent amount in the market place there is little Incentive to continue exploration. Conversely, a company which manages to find new reserves at low cost has a significant competitive edge since it can afford more exploration, find and develop reservoirs more profitably, and can target and develop smaller prospects. [Pg.15]

Budget methods are based on the fact that there is a physiological upper limit to the amount of food and drink that can be consumed on any day. If the amount of additive present in that food is also limited (e.g. by national legislation) then there is an absolute maximum that can be ingested on any day. The difference in oxidation levels of I and II is not so obvious and requires detailed analysis. The project was a success as measured by the criteria of being under budget and on schedule. It was unique in that it was a first of a kind plant for the commercial conversion of natural gas to gasoline. This enables New Zealand to be less dependent on imported petroleum products. As with any project, problems arose, were addressed immediately and tackled vigorously at no time were they allowed to affect the completion of the plant.
