In addition to public concern, international conventions to reduce or eliminate emissions of POPs in South Korea took effect in May 2004. The South Korean Government, as a signatory participant of the Stockholm Convention on POPs, plans to ratify the convention. Then the government is obliged to submit a National Implementation Plant (NIP) to minimize POPs emission and update the plan and provide a status report every two years from the time of ratification (Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, 2001). Therefore, it is inevitable that a scientific assessment and review of the domestic status and history of the POPs pollution including emissions, contamination levels (or distribution), exposures, and risks will be needed. This information will be disseminated to the public and also used to develop efficient control... [Pg.33]

In 1883, in order to facilitate the transfer of technology, a large number of states created the Paris Convention, an international convention. The Paris Convention, established major basic rules concerning industrial property and was a remarkable piece of legislation for its time. The Convention was revised in subsequent international conferences in Brussels in 1900, Washington in 1911, The Hague in 1925, London in 1934, Lisbon in 1958, and Stockholm in 1967. The main provisions which apply between the member countries are now ... [Pg.879]

The ICAO Online Aircraft Safety friformation System (OASIS) which contains pertinent information concerning all aircraft habitually involved in international civil aviation, including registration, ownership and control, in accordance with Article 21 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation was developed with the capability to establish unique identifiers for aircraft using two fields of data that, when combined, uniquely identify all aircraft entered into the database, regardless of their current registration marks. This repository of information will contain a history of aircraft ownership and control will thus be available. [Pg.2]

Conventionally, analytical SEC columns have been produced with an internal diameter of 7.5 mm and column lengths of 300 and 600 mm. In recent years environmental and safety issues have led to concerns over the reduction of organic solvent consumption, which has resulted in the development of columns for organic SEC that are more solvent efficient (13). By reducing the internal diameter of the column, the volumetric flow rate must be reduced in order to maintain the same linear velocity through the column. This reduction is carried out in the ratio of the cross sectional areas (or internal diameters) of the two columns. Eor example, if a 7.5-mm i.d. column operates at 1.0 ml/min, then in order to maintain the same linear velocity through a 4.6-mm i.d. column the flow rate would be... [Pg.364]
