Contrived story

Mosca saves Volpone from the police by explaining the incident to the three gulls and persuading them to tell his contrived story in court. Mosca says that Bonario, impatient to see Volpone, discovered the fox with Celia, seized the lady, and made her swear that Volpone had attempted to rape her. The plan is to get an injunction against Bonario. 

Later, I read that they were indeed giving repeated, heavy doses of LSD to suspected spies, hoping to break their cover stories. Supposedly, the KGB even used this technique with Cardinal Mindszenty, to elicit contrived public confessions. 

The disjunction between the stories told by Watt and by Robison in the course of Boulton Watt v. Hornblower and Maberley occurred despite Watt s best efforts to coach Robison about his testimony. Even as he asked Robison to appear as a witness Watt began the coaching, telling his old friend I did not invent this method piece meal but all at once in a few hours in 1765 I believe. .. all this was done in the day or two after I had contrived it, the other experiments you mention in the EncycP were afterwards .36... 

This section is especially important for the residents and stakeholders. It illustrates to what lengths the military will go to come up with a plausible story as to why there is no problem at your site. While the stories will be different for each site, there will be contrived explanations for not taking action. Your regulators may be inexperienced in military sites and there may be a tendency to defer to military expertise. This section may provide clues to the method of operation that might be employed. 

What do you say to filmmakers or dramatists who resist the notion of story as being contrived ...
