Contract Work Hours and Safety

Some preexisting federal laws are also enforced by OSHA, including the Federal Supply Contracts Act (Walsh Healey) and the Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act (Construction Safety Act). Standards issued under these acts are now enforced in all industries where they apply (OSHATI, 1994, chap. 2). 

Subpart B contains an interpretation and the applicability of construction health and safety standards to work performed under contract to government agencies. This subpart contains the general rules of the Secretary of Labor which state that no contractor shall require any laborers work in conditions that are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to a person s safety and health.
