Contextual design

Contextual design is a flexible software design approach that collects multiple customer-centered techniques into an integrated design process [7]. The approach is centered around contextual inquiry sessions in which detailed information is gathered about the way individual people work and use systems and the associated information flow. The data from each contextual inquiry session are used to create sequence models that map the exact workflow in a session along with any information breakdowns, flow models that detail the flow of information between parties and systems (much akin to but less formal...

Mathematicians have their names attached to theorems, lemmas and even conjectures naturalists have species and genera called after them physicists have their principles and chemists their reactions and reagents. Engineers can claim the dimensionless parameters, for they, who, in their function as designers, have often to work with units, appreciate more than anyone the conceptual beauty of the dimensionless number, invested as it is with full contextual meaning and magnitude. I submit that it would be more than appropriate to call this transfer parameter the Davidson number, for who has done more to elucidate the mechanism of this transfer process than John Davidson Damkohler has preempted the initial letters Da, but that is no matter, for transfer gives us Tr and we immediately think of Trinity and its present Vice-Master. 

It is outside the scope of this report to establish the group to which every existing biomarker of exposure belongs according to the framework presented. Furthermore, the group designation has to be contextualized to a study s objectives, as stated previously. Some case studies will be presented in Chapter 5, however, to illustrate the potential usefulness of the framework. 

Patients with schizophrenia perform poorly on tasks requiring cognitive control and contextual information processing (Stroop, AX-CPT, go/no-go). In the typical AX-CPT task (Rosvold et al., 1956), participants are shown a series of letters, presented one at a time. The letter X is designated as a target, but only when it is immediately preceded by a valid cue (letter A ) X preceded by an invalid cue (a letter other than A BX trials), and other letters preceded by A (AY trials) or any other letter (BY trials) are... 

Process integration in PRIME is based on the integration of the contextual description of the design process steps with descriptions of the tools responsible to perform these steps. A tool model is constructed in a tool modeling formalism describing its capabilities (i.e. services provided) and GUI elements (menu items, tool bars, pop-up menus etc.). Process and tool metamodels are integrated within the so-called environment metamodel (Fig. 3.3). The interpretation of environment models enables the tools to adapt their behavior to the applicable process definitions for the current process state. Thus, the user is able to better understand and control the process execution.
