Vladimir M. Egorov was born in Odintsovo-10, Moscow Region, Russia, in 1982. He received his MS in chemistry from Moscow State University in 2005. The subject of his diploma thesis was to develop a method of analytical reagents immobilization on cellulose matrix by dissolution or reconstitution using ionic liquids. Currently, he is a postgraduate student at the MSU Chemistry Department. His research interests include (but not limited to) application and synthesis of novel ionic liquids and computational chemistry. He has been a prize-winner of numerous contests in chemistry, mathematics, and biology. [Pg.403]

As incidents such as these illustrate, dachas have served both as symbolic mediums for political currents and as practical sites for the enactment of political activities. More than just providing a living commentary on the rise and fall of Russia s political and financial elite, however, dachas are powerful symbols and vehicles for Russia s democratic transition as it is being experienced and contested by Russians from all walks of life. In very real and compelling ways, dachas serve a dual purpose as both channels and sites of political activity. [Pg.160]

There is new movement in the discussion about self-determination and statehood. The contested declaration of independence by Kosovo will soon be subjected to review by the International Court of Justice. Russia s recognition of the purported independence of Abkhasia and South Ossetia has caused additional controversy.
