Containing mannose

Heteroglycan a-mannosyltransferase [EC 2.4.1.48] catalyzes the reaction of GDP-mannose with a heteroglycan to produce GDP and a l,2(or l,3)-a-D-mannosylhetero-glycan. In this reaction, in which the heteroglycan primer contains mannose, galactose, and xylose, 1,2- and 1,3-mannosyl bonds are formed. [Pg.307]

Lectins also act intracellularly. An oligosaccharide containing mannose 6-phosphate marks newly synthe-... [Pg.264]

Anti-a-D-mannose antibodies have been isolated from the serum of rabbits immunized with the glycoconjugate of a-D-mannose and bovine serum albumin [85], The antibodies were purified by affinity chromatography with adsorption on a mannosyl-Sepharose column and elution with a-D-mannose or methyl a-D-mannoside. Such antibodies should be especially useful for studying the detection of diseases due to the appearance of abnormal glycoproteins that contain mannose polymers. [Pg.559]

In the synthesis of most glycoproteins containing mannose, the intermediate carrier of the mannosyl moiety is the polyene dolichol phosphate. However, in some systems, retinyl phosphate can act as the intermediate carrier between UDP-mannose and the acceptor glycoprotein. Retinyl phosphate maimose seems to be involved especially in the synthesis of hydrophobic regions of glycoproteins (DeLuca, 1977 Frot-Coutaz et al., 1985). [Pg.58]

Constitution.—A study of the hydrolytic products obtained from cellulose indicates that it is a polysaccharose carbohydrate made up of hexose mono-saccharose units and in the hemi-celluloses and probably the ligno-celluloses the units may also be pentose mono-saccharoses. Normal cellulose is probably composed of glucose units only while the hemi-cellulose may contain mannose or galactose units. In regard to... [Pg.368]

In addition to glucose and galactose and their amino derivatives, glycoproteins contain mannose, L-fucose, and IV-acetylneuraminic acid (NANA). [Pg.136]

IGF receptors. But the IGF-II released from muscle would have a high affinity for type-II, as well as type-I, IGF receptors. The type-II receptor is also the mannose-6-phosphate receptor (Morgan et al., 1987 MacDonald et al., 1988) and muscle IGF-II may modulate the binding of lysosomal enzymes containing mannose-6-phosphate moieties that bind to the type-II receptors. [Pg.407]

Partially purified serologically actiye fractions, ACI-B, MHI-B and RNI-B, were separated by affinity chromatography with a con A sepharose column from the supernatant of disrupted mycelium fluid of cyl indrospora, JM. hiemal is and J,. nigricans, respectively. These active fractions contained mannose as their... [Pg.91]
