Many cmjugated polymers are synthesized by step-growth. If the polymer is soluble and e reaction employed is of high yield, high polymer can be expected. However, if oligomers precipitate before they react with one another, or if the yield of the reaction is low, the degree of polymerization can be very low. This problan is often encoimtered in conjugated polymer synthesis.
