The examples shown in this chapter are only a small part of the rich variety of behavior encountered in far-from-equilibrium chemical systems. Here our objective is only to show a few examples an extensive description would form a book in itself At the end of the chapter there is a list of monographs and conference proceedings that give a detailed descriptions of oscillations, propagating waves, Turing structures, pattern formation on catalytic surfaces, multistability and chaos (both temporal and spatiotemporal). Dissipative structures have also been found in other fields such as hydrodynamics and optics. 

Richter and Paretti (2009) analyzed papers in the International Journal of Engineering Education, the European Journal of Engineering Education since 2000 and the Conference Proceedings from 2003-2006 of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and found an abundance of descriptions of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary projects and courses. However, they identified a lack of scholarly work on student learning and performance, on "measurable learning objectives or... how exactly faculty use these projects, courses, and curricula to teach students the requisite skills. (32)... 

Another source of information on atomic energy consists of the meetings and conferences sponsored by the AEC and its contractors. A list and description of the proceedings of these conferences, Proceedings of Technical Meetings, has been issued.

There is no doubt that the description of pTAS investigations could fill several volumes on their own. In the following chapters, only those applications with relevance to synthetic chemistry are presented. For reviewing aU other pTAS applications, actually the majority, the reader is referred to reviews in the field (pioneering literature [30 0] up-to-date literature [41—44] essays [45] see also [46] for a description of a consortium) and to the proceedings of the pTAS conferences.

A reviewer has kindly provided references to other programs for solving differential equations by numerical methods (13-21). These will be useful to individuals that do not have IBM equipment but would like to do calculations of the sort outlined above. The general topic has been discussed (13). Sebastian, et al. (14) discuss DPS (Dynamic Process Simulator) and provide references to descriptions of MIMIC (15), ACSL (16), ISIS (17), BEDSOCS (18), DSL/77 (19), DARE (20) and PMSP (21). References to other programs can be found in papers that accompany reference 2 and in other Proceedings of Conferences on Applications of Continuous System Simulation. Because of the simplicity and power of system simulation programs such as are discussed herein, one could expect that every major computer producer would have available software with the capability of CSMP.

The past two decades have seen the development of many new urethane formulations for grouting. Virtually all of this development was done in Europe, and although the products have seen widespread use there, they have not appeared in the American market to any extent.
