Ma et al. reported that the addition of silver (Ag) to Pd improved the proton conductivity of Pd film as the Pd-Ag flhn had higher proton conductivity than the pure Pd flhn (Ma et al. 2003). Using the same sputtering method, a thin Pt/Pd-Ag/Pt alloy fllm was deposited on the surface of the Nation membrane. The platinum (Pt) on the membrane surface acts as a bridge to transfer the protons from the Pd-Ag alloy fllm to the Nation membrane due to the different mechanisms of proton transport between the Pd-Ag alloy flhn and the Naflon membrane. [Pg.416]

Qualitative data show that the middle member is more reactive than the heaviest one e.g., CpMo(CO)jR > CpW(CO)jR (Section VI,B), Rh(III) > Ir(III) (Section VI,E), and Pd(II) > Pt(II) (Section VI,F). In view of its inertness Pt is mostly used, but it should be borne in mind that in the presence of strongly reducing agents such as Cr(II), Ti(IH) and V(IV) Pt can catalyse the reduction of H+ ions and then does not satisfy the aim of electrode inertness. Alkynes react with haloethenes [38] to yield but-l-en-3-ynes (55-80%), when the reaction is catalysed by Cu(I) and Pd(0) in the presence of a quaternary ammonium salt. The formation of pent-l-en-4-ynes, obtained from the Cu(I)-catalysed reaction of equimolar amounts of alk-l-ynes and allyl halides, has greater applicability and versatility when conducted in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst [39, 40] although, under strongly basic conditions, 5-arylpent-l-en-4-ynes isomerize.
