Compounding industry

Three binary zirconium fluorides Zrp2, ZrF, and ZrF, are known to exist. The most important compounds industrially are zirconium tetrafluoride, ZrF, and fluorozirconic acid [12021 -95-3], H2ZrF, and its salts (see Zirconiumand zirconium compounds). 

The lead-bearing components ate released from the case and other nordead-containing parts, followed by the smelting of the battery plates, and refinement to pure lead or specification alloys. The trend toward battery grid alloys having Httle or no antimony, increases the abiHty of a recovery process to produce soft lead (refined). As requited in the production of primary lead, each step in the secondary operations must meet the environmental standards for lead concentration in ait (see Air pollution Lead compounds, industrial toxicology). 

The particle size and chemical composition of lead and lead compounds affect the readiness with which lead is absorbed from the lungs and digestive tract (see Lead compounds, industrial toxicology). Larger particles and compounds having low aqueous solubiHty are less hazardous than finely divided particles and compounds of higher solubiHty. 

The OSHA limits, regulations, and recommendations apply to in-plant air quaUty. Improperly filtered exhaust air may cause a plant to be in violation of the EPA standard, therefore these data should not be confused with the EPA limit for airborne lead, 1.5 fig lead/m, measured over a calendar quarter, which pertains to the exterior plant environment and emissions. The installation and proper maintenance of exhaust filtration systems enables most plants to comply with the EPA limits for airborne lead (see Lead compounds, industrial toxicology). 

When these pigments are used with lead-containing glazes, care should be exercised to use lead-safe glaze materials (see Lead compounds, industrial toxicology).

This matrix was not analyzed in the Ebro river basin until 1999. The first study was the largest study to date, because it combined the analyses of OCs and PCBs in water and sediment samples [80], It was not until 2004 that sediments from the Ebro basin were analyzed again, but in this case the study was focused on the lower course of the Ebro [81], with special attention to the Ebro Delta [24], and the area of Flix [82], downstream of the location of the organochlorine compounds industry in this village, where concentrations of up to 5,000 pg kg 1 of polychloronaphthalene were found. The number of studies that consider the sediment matrix is much lower than for water, and the number of chemical families is smaller, focused mainly on organochlorine compounds and PCBs (Fig. 4).
