Composite structure models

Two distinct types of macroscopic theoretical model for the low strain mechanical behaviour of oriented solid polymers will be considered in this chapter. First, models which predict the changes in elastic constants with the development of orientation these will be referred to as orienting element models. Secondly, models which seek to explain the mechanical behaviour of both isotropic and oriented polymers in terms of a two phase material with separate components representing crystalline and amorphous fractions these we shall call composite structure models. [Pg.264]

The considerations of Read and Dean are, however, moving away from the spirit of the aggregate model, which is essentially a single phase model, and it is appropriate to consider them as a link with composite structure models, which will now be discussed in some detail. [Pg.277]

Despite its two-dimensional nature, theTakayanagi model is successful in explaining the main features of low strain mechanical anisotropy in oriented annealed crystalline polymers. Perhaps even more important it points the way to more sophisticated composite structure models which are at present being developed for crystalline polymers. [Pg.287]

Table 3 lists the selected properties [16] that we have measured for several commercially available acrylate resins manufactured by the Sartomer Company and the Rohm and Haas Company. The resins were cured in an AECL Gammacell Model 240. The temperature rise was measured for an 8-g sample using Acsion s (formerly AECL Radiation Applications Branch) Gamma Calorimetry method [17]. All of this information is being used to evaluate the applicability of EB-cured acrylate adhesives for repairing composite structures. Combinations of these adhesives can be used to create electron-curable adhesives suitable for composite repair. [Pg.1014]

The comet structure model proposed in Figure 6.16 shows clearly that the observation of molecules from Earth must be limited to those molecules present within the coma of the comet, and whilst they originate in part from the structure and composition of the nucleus the molecular observations are of the coma chemistry only. The coma observations will remain until we send a probe to land on the surface of a comet and report back the composition of the core. The Rosetta mission will do just this and we shall see the composition directly from the data it recovers, if successful. [Pg.181]

A simple composite model of slow motions and molecular reorientations is the so-called slowly relaxing local structure model by Freed.156,157 This... [Pg.105]

The simple structural models built by collections of discs can also be useful for the description of other frequently found behaviour Fig. 2.3(a) and (b) present cases in which we still have substitution of the two atoms but in an ordered way, causing in Fig. 2.3(a) the formation of atomic clusters and in Fig. 2.3(b) the formation of a new substance (a solid compound ) of a well-defined composition and not of a phase field having a continuously changing composition. [Pg.11]

In this section we will present some modelling developments for various forms of composites. The purpose is not to propose a calculation method - excellent computer software programs exist for that - but to show the broad strength range according to the composite structure, to underline the separate effects of fibres and matrix, and to examine the effects of some service conditions. These examples cannot be used for design calculations. [Pg.770]

These types of models, while incomplete, are steps toward the formulation of composite models, which depend on future availability of compositional data. Moreover, these structural models are an important aid in understanding the interactions between anthropogenic chemicals and terrestrial organic matter. However, due to the heterogeneity of humic substances in the environment, provision of an exact, general structure does not seem feasible. [Pg.16]

The structural model of Hazen and Wones has been confirmed experimentally. For example, the pure annite end-member [KFe3 (Si3Al)Oio(OH)2] appears to be geometrically unstable at all P and T conditions (table 5.56). Indeed, pure annite has never been synthesized, although slightly oxidized annites of composition K(Fe 7Feo3)(Si3Al)Oio.3(OH)i 7 have been prepared, with a djd, ratio of 1.275, at the limit of intrinsic stability. [Pg.330]
