Column priming

This is to reduce the risk of column priming , which, if allowed to occur, can take a considerable period of time to resolve. Column priming is a phenomenon which occurs when samples at high concentrations are being analysed, with the analyte becoming bound to the stationary phase, only to be eventually eluted at some later time. [Pg.163]

As indicated earlier, the vaUdity of the method of dimensional analysis is based on the premise that any equation that correcdy describes a physical phenomenon must be dimensionally homogeneous. An equation is said to be dimensionally homogeneous if each term has the same exponents of dimensions. Such an equation is of course independent of the systems of units employed provided the units are compatible with the dimensional system of the equation. Once the radionuclides reach the sediments they are subject to several processes, prime among them being sedimentation, mixing, radioactive decay and production, and chemical diagenesis.
